Free Resources for AP World History Teachers

Teaching AP World for the first time (or even the second!) takes a lot. The course is so expansive and the pressure of that exam isn’t only weighing on students, it weighs on you, too. Luckily, there are several free resources available to you that can help you cover all the bases and ensure your students get the content they need to do their best on the AP exam.

Heimler’s History Videos

A lot of students use this series as a way to cram for the exam because they are designed specifically for AP World History. There are plenty of great world history YouTube videos out there, but these ones hit on the major topics for this course and they are very succinct. What I like best is that there is a short video for each topic within each unit of AP World and there are review videos. I don’t always show them in class, but I do post them all for my students and assign them as homework. Each video is only a few minutes so giving a few questions to accompany the videos is a very easy homework assignment and it ensures your students are being exposed to important key points.

AP World History Facebook Group

This is an excellent place where AP World teachers from all over the world exchange ideas and post resources. It’s a great place to ask questions and get ideas for your classroom. You can join the group here.

AP Central

You have likely already visited this page, but in case you haven’t, you need to go ahead and bookmark this for your reference as you move through the AP World course. Click here to visit the AP World History Course and Exam Description. There some sample exam questions, rubrics, and some teaching suggestions included in the guide.

Crash Course World History

This is another great YouTube series that can be really helpful in the AP World classroom. You may want to pick and choose which videos to include in your lessons but it’s a great way to get away from the textbook if you need to.
